I’ve been testing ooml.io, a lightweight macOS screen recorder that intentionally avoids the complexity typical of tools like Loom. There’s no account to create, no automatic cloud uploads, and no subscription required for a simple task. You install it, and it lives in your menu bar. You can start recording within seconds.
ooml.io focuses on screen and webcam recording and has a calm, well-designed interface and fast workflow. Every video is saved locally, making it ideal for client work, internal demos, and early product ideas where privacy is important. There’s no built-in editing or instant sharing links, and you can’t record system audio. In return, though, you get speed, simplicity, and full control over your files.
If you regularly record short demos or explanations and want a tool that feels more like a utility than a platform, ooml.io is a refreshing alternative.
If you would like me to, I can also make this shorter, adopt a more sales-focused tone, or adapt it to a more personal newsletter style.
